Wednesday mornings have been designated by the drone pilots as the day to get together and fly. We have several FPV (first person view) pilots in the club now and several more who are interested but haven't made the plunge yet. Phil, Dwayne, Randy, Tony, Jim Pippins, Jacko, myself, and I'm sure a few more I can't think of at this time, are having a good time with what we once cursed under our breath. Some are flying FPV planes, and some quads. Unlike helicopters, drones fly a pattern much like an airplane and we have had no trouble flying alongside airplanes.
The transition to quads is a little tricky since most everything is backwards from flying a plane. Give it down to go forward, give it up to go back, give it throttle to go up, give it aileron to go sideways, and steer with the rudder, nothing to it! Fortunately they are really tough and almost impossible to break. Props are 4 for under $3 and that's the major component you break. FPV make it a little simpler since orientation is always the same, just like being in the cockpit.
Come out on a Wednesday morning and fly with us or just watch, we are all learning together and it's been a lot of fun.
